    Amazing. I've always thought that modern graphic design was much like religious paintings in that they're both commissioned by the most powerful institutions of their time. I was unfamiliar with Alan Macdonald. Thank you for bringing his work to my attention.

    What an interesting point about design, I never thought of it this way. I guess it's even more true of fashion photography, which – just like the religious paintings of the past – depicts social and gender roles in their most typified extremes, perpetuating the culture of hegemony in a way analogous to how the Medieval church did.
